Navionics Boating App

This is my primary source of up to date charts and having the same app installed on my tablet, mobile phone, plus old redundant mobiles, I am ensuring a level of redundancy is maintained.

AIS is now featured on the latest version, I have tried this with a NMEA to WiFi server and it has a couple of downsides at the moment.

  • The AIS is only a 'Display Only'. No data is available for collision avoidance.
  • On some Android platforms the AIS function overloads the processor causing crashes.

Therefore the AIS functionality still needs to evolve (as at November 2019) to be of any use. But is a step in the right direction.

One of the major benefits of using the Navionics App, is the ability to synchronise with the web based Navionics Chart Viewer.

You are then able to perform the following on a larger screen laptop when the Internet is available :

  • Log in using your Navionics name and password.
  • View / Modify / or Create new routes - save them ready for automatic sync to your mobile devices.
  • Plan a voyage on a larger screen using the same charts that your mobile device has downloaded.
  • Share saved routes with friends for use on their Navionics enabled devices (sharing only available via the mobile app ).
